MonaLisa Touch™ FAQ's
What is the MonaLisa Touch ?
MonaLisa Touch is a new treatment that uses laser energy to treat the symptoms you may be experiencing. It is an FDA approved medical laser that delivers controlled energy to the vaginal tissue so cells make more collagen, thus, promoting a return to vaginal health.
Has MonaLisa Touch been clinically studied ?
A multisite study was conducted by two leading Urogynecologists who are experts in the field of post-menopausal vaginal health; Dr. Mickey Karram, Director of Fellowship Program on Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery at The Christ Hospital, Cincinnati, OH and Dr. Eric Sokol, Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Stanford University Medical Center. Additionally, recent results from a trial evaluating the laser treatment on postmenopausal women and breast cancer survivors who are experiencing vaginal health issues shows positive results and a high patient satisfaction rating.
Where can I have the MonaLisa Touch done ?
The MonaLisa Touch is a quick, simple and safe procedure that can be done in your physician’s office. The procedure is typically performed by an obstetrician/gynecologist.
What does the procedure feel like ?
The in-office procedure is virtually painless, requires no anesthesia and typically is done under 5 minutes. Women typically describe it as a light vibration.
How many treatments does it take ?
Patients receive three 5 minute in-office treatments that are spaced six weeks apart for the best and longest lasting clinical result.
When will I see results and how long does it last?
Most MonaLisa Touch patients feel improvement after the very first treatment, although the procedure calls for three 5 minute treatments that are generally spaced over an 12-week period. After the third treatment, patients should expect to come back annually for a single maintenance treatment.
What are the known side effects ?
Side effects reported with MonaLisa Touch procedure are typically mild and of short duration. In some cases, slight reddening, swelling and a mild discomfort in the vaginal region may be observed after the treatment. Some patients also may experience a slight discharge, or some light spotting. These symptoms usually disappear after 1-2 days.
The MonaLisa Touch was launched in Europe in 2008 and now has been performed on over 20,000 women worldwide. Studies and patient follow-up are currently ongoing, but to date, no serious or long lasting complications or side effects have been reported.
